Space Technology Conclave Thiruvananthapuram

Theme: “New Space – Opportunities and way forward”

New Space – Opportunities

With the advancements in New technologies, space Industry is going through a significant transformations. Large Missions are giving way to constellations, Private investments are coming into the domain, innovators and researchers are investing in rapid commercialization of  their ideas are some such trends. On the demand side, private consumers are expanding for Space Tech services like never before. Traditional Govt. run programme are likely to be taken up by private organisations , and we are expected to witness an exponential growth in the Space Tech Industry.
The global space industry today is worth $ 250 – 300 B . The US, Russia, and a few European countries are the biggest stakeholders of this billion-dollar industry. Historically, investments into space have been highly regulated due to the inherent risks of such investments and the long cycle time for realising any returns. With new technology infusion, and  higher level of participation in applied research, the New Space industry is expected to bring down cost of  development and operations to significantly low numbers, and increase the value significantly and therefor bringing a more prosperous space economy for all.

SpacePark Kerala

In the context of Private space Tech industry growth ,  Government of Kerala has come forward with an idea of setting up a unique ecosystem under its SpacePark initiative. Through this initiative, government plans to create an ecosystem that will benefit Start-ups, Innovators, MSMEs and researchers by building Physical and Common Infrastructure, Global Partnerships, Experts for mentoring and Demand aggregation. This approach we believe, will enable the New Space businesses, start-ups, investors and industry at large to explore newer areas of collaboration, global market access, deep technology exchanges and business models.

Kovalam is a small coastal town in the southern Indian state of Kerala, south of Thiruvananthapuram. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach.

  • Lighthouse Beach: The southernmost beach, the Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists, Lighthouse Beach got its name due to the old Vizhinjam Lighthouse located on a 35 meter high on top of the Kurumkal hillock. The lighthouse is built using stones, is colored in red and white bands and enjoys a height of 118 feet. It’s intermittent beams at night render the beach with an unearthly charm.
  • Hawah Beach: Eve’s Beach, more commonly known as Hawa Beach, ranks second, in the early day, is a beehive of activities with fishermen setting out for sea. With a high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights.
  • Samudra Beach: A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn’t have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part.

The Raviz Kovalam sits on a cliff, offering panoramic views of the Kovalam shoreline and the Arabian Sea. It is steps away from a private beach, and features a spa.Rooms at The Raviz Kovalam Beach combine wooden décor with modern amenities and each room provides views of the garden or the sea.Located on the beach, The Tides Restaurant serves Asian specialities and grilled seafood dishes.
